Antioxidant could offer miracle cure for wrinkles

Washington, Aug 31 : Women may soon no longer have to turn to plastic surgery to get rid of those pesky wrinkles, thanks to a researcher at the Hebrew University Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Quality Sciences who has developed a new method to fight wrinkles. The method has been developed by Dr. Orit Bossi under the supervision of Zecharia Madar, the Karl Bach Professor of Agricultural Biochemistry at the Hebrew University, and Prof. Shlomo Grossman of Bar-Ilan University.Antioxidants operate against free radicals which cause a breakdown of many tissues in the body, including the skin. When found in small quantities in the body, free radicals are not harmful and are even involved in various physical processes. When there is an excess of free radicals, however, as occurs during normal aging or as a result of excessive exposure to ultra-violet radiation from the sun, the result, among other things, is a breakdown of the collagen and elastin fibers in the skin.

Study says caffeine is OK

SYDNIE LIEV admits she's an addict.

A hit in the morning and another in the evening help Liev, a 19-year-old Washington University student and cross country runner, get through the day.

Even if she could — and Liev says she can't — she's not looking to give up this dependency, which began when she started college a year ago.

"It's a very controlled addiction," she says, a cup of her vice in hand.

Like many of us, Liev has fallen under the often sweet and always powerful spell of caffeine. Health agencies estimate that 80 to 90 percent of Americans get a daily fix, usually from coffee, tea or soda.

Without it, we'd be a nation of irritable zombies reaching for the aspirin bottle — at least for a couple of days, until we shook the stuff out of our systems.
